UN-REDD Newsletter Highlights Ninth Policy Board Meeting
31 July 2013: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD) has released the June/July issue of its newsletter, which highlights the outcomes of the ninth meeting of the UN-REDD Policy Board, including the approval of US$4 million for Colombia's national REDD+ programme.
The newsletter notes that an information session on gender mainstreaming in REDD+ was held during the ninth meeting of the UN-REDD Policy Board.
Other activities profiled in the newsletter include: the initiation of a REDD+ awareness-raising programme in Bhutan; the convening of a workshop on free prior and informed consent (FPIC) in Indonesia; and a workshop on tools to achieve multiple benefits from REDD+ in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The newsletter also discusses the Global Symposium on REDD+ in a Green Economy, and the launch of GlobAllome, an online tool for the assessment of forest biomass and carbon stocks. With regards to UN-REDD activities, the newsletter reports on activities at the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), as well as a publication on private sector engagement in REDD+.
