UN Postal Administration Issues Forests Stamp
13 October 2011: The UN Postal Administration issued a series of eight stamps in celebration of 2011 as the International Year of Forests. The stamps showcase the beauty of forests and their link to life on Earth, illustrating the importance of forests in people's lives and for the health of our planet, including for climate change mitigation and biodiversity preservation, among their many other ecosystem services.
Commenting on the stamps, which were designed by Sergio Baradat, David Failor, Postal Authority Chief, stated that they “remind us that mankind plays an important role in maintaining the balance provided by forests." Jan McAlpine, UNFF Secretariat Director, noted that the stamps visually evoke the spirit of the International Year of Forests and transports it worldwide. [UN Press Release] [UN Stamps Website]
