UN Headquarters Staff Join Civil Society Campaign
11 October 2010: A group of people among the staff at UN Headquarters in New York, US, organized a swap of 350 incandescent light bulbs for compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL), with the aim of joining the 350 global events held on 10/10/10.
CFLs use 75% less energy than a regular incandescent bulb, and last up to six times longer. The swap is expected to save around 93 tons of carbon dioxide throughout the lifetime of the 350 CFL bulbs. In addition, in order to raise awareness of the need to mitigate emissions, the incandescent bulbs were reused to build a sign that will be displayed for several weeks.
