UN Executive Heads Call for Copenhagen to be Turning Point for a Global Green Economy

© UN30 June 2009: The UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination (CEB), which brings together the executive Heads of the organizations of the UN System, issued a statement titled “Green Economy: A Transformation to Address Multiple Crises.”

The statement notes that the solidarity of the international community is being tested and that economic recovery should be “the turning point for an ambitious and effective international response to the multiple crises facing humanity.” The statement further provides that the UNFCCC conference in Copenhagen this December will be “the most representative testing case” of international solidarity, and calls for Copenhagen to be “the turning point for ushering in a global green economy.” [The Joint Statement]
