Third South-South Expo Focuses on Capacity in Research and Technology Development

26 November 2010: The Third Annual Global South-South Development Expo (GSSD Expo) took place from 22-26 November 2010, at International Labour Organization (ILO) headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and showcased over 100 partnerships and solutions to poverty challenges that have been developed by developing countries themselves.

The South-South Expo has been organized by the UN every year since 2008. This year's edition of the Expo spotlighted solutions on, inter alia, social protection and decent work, food security, climate change and environment, HIV/AIDS, global health and education. Participants focused on enhancing the strategic capacity of developing countries in research and technology development, and sought to develop inter-regional partnerships. Among the partnerships presented was the Programme for South-South Cooperation on Sustainable Development (PSC) among Benin, Bhutan and Costa Rica, which aims to facilitate the sharing of low-cost renewable technologies between the three countries involved to promote increased agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.
