Steering Committee for African-Arab Joint Action Plan on Agricultural Development and Food Security Convenes
1 May 2011: The Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union Commission (AUC), in collaboration with the Government of Sudan, held the inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee of the African-Arab Joint Action Plan (JAP) on Agricultural Development and Food Security in Khartoum, Sudan. The Steering Committee's Objective is to facilitate JAP implementation and monitoring of its projects and programmes as an instrument for Afro-Arab cooperation.
The JAP was adopted at the African and Arab Ministers of Agriculture meeting in February 2010, to promote inter-regional cooperation in agricultural development and food security. It focuses on cooperation on: agricultural intensification; food reserves; infrastructure and trade; agricultural research, development and technology transfer; and climate change capacity building as a cross-cutting issue to attain agricultural development and food security in both regions.
