SPREP Releases Report on Pacific Adaptation Challenges

SPREPFebruary 2013: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has released a report, titled “Report on Adaptation Challenges in Pacific Island Countries,” which aims to contextualize the Pacific's adaptation challenges, highlighting adaptation efforts and ongoing challenges.

The 29-page report outlines current adaptation activities, national priorities, challenges and constraints, and successes and lessons learned. The report focuses on experiences under the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change (PACC) project.

The report concludes that there is a lack of human and institutional capacity at the national level to identify vulnerable sectors. It highlights short project durations as a key sustainability challenge. It also underscores the need for community engagement and increasing understanding of climate change impacts.
