SPREP Announces Transition to Biodiesel
17 August 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) has announced it is transitioning to biodiesel in its fleet of vehicles. The fuel, a mix made from plant sources and diesel, was developed by the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (SROS).
According to SPREP, the use of biodiesel is a response to climate change threats posed to the region. SPREP is encouraging SROS to increase the renewable energy components in its biodiesel, to contribute further to reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. [SPREP Press Release]
