Rio Conventions Pavilion Highlights Green Growth in Africa, Traditional Knowledge

14 June 2012: The Rio Conventions Pavilion (RCP) continued on 14 June 2012, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in parallel with the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), convening for Africa Day and Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (ILCs) Day.

The three sessions held on the second day addressed: economic valuation of land (EVL) - an approach to advance sustainable development in the context of a green economy; facilitating green growth in Africa - perspectives from the African Development Bank (AfDB); and the contribution of traditional knowledge to climate mitigation and adaptation.

The Pavilion is a collaborative outreach activity of the Secretariats of the Rio Conventions (namely the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and 25 other international, national and local partners. [IISD RS Coverage of the Rio Conventions Pavilion, 14 June]
