REEEP South East Asia and Pacific Newsletter Highlights Renewable Energy Projects, Workshops and Publications

8 May 2012: The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) has published the May issue of its South East Asia and Pacific Newsletter, with news on REEEP's participation in global clean energy initiatives, project and policy developments, new publications, and upcoming events in the region. 

The newsletter features articles on, inter alia: REEEP's participation in the roundtable on Energy Efficiency Financing at the Third Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM3); the experiences of two Tongan women who, after a six month stay at India's Barefoot College, will start installing solar panels for underprivileged households with the support of a new Women's Solar Project; the contribution of reegle, a REEEP-supported clean energy information portal, to the development of the Global Atlas for Solar and Wind Energy, an internet-based geographic information system mapping global solar and wind resources; the first public Renewable Energy Capacity Building Workshop of the Tonga Energy Roadmap; the Republic of Korea's announcement that it will implement a carbon cap-and-trade system by 2015; the upcoming Third Workshop on Enhancing the Regional Distribution of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Projects in Asia and the Pacific, in July in Manila, Philippines; and reports by the UN Development Programme (UNDP) on the outcomes and upcoming challenges for the UN climate change process, and by the International Energy Agency (IEA) on clean energy technologies, and on renewable energies for remote areas and islands.
