Norway Supports UNECA’s African Climate Policy Centre
4 December 2009: The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) on 4 December 2009, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and committed 8 million Norwegian Kroner (about US$1 million) to UNECA's African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC).
The ACPC was established within the framework of Climate Information for Development in Africa (ClimDev-Africa), a joint initiative of the African Union Commission (AUC), UNECA and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The Programme was established in response to the urgent challenge that climate variability and change pose to Africa's sustainable development objectives, and has a mandate to support African Heads of State and Government to develop continent-wide systems for monitoring, predicting and responding to climate events.
