Norway Announces $40 Million for UN-REDD

UN-REDD Programme22 November 2013: The UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation (UN-REDD) has announced that Norway will give US$40 million in funding to support investments in REDD+ readiness, including improved governance and enhanced technical skills as well as knowledge sharing and capacity building.

The announcement came at side event held on the margins of the nineteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP19) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The side event, celebrating the fifth anniversary of UN-REDD, noted the achievement of UN-REDD in supporting the engagement of indigenous peoples and local communities, including through the UN-REDD Safeguards system.
