New UNGA President Calls Attention to UN Summit on Climate Change
15 September 2009: Opening the 64th annual session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), incoming President Ali Treki (Libya) urged participants at the upcoming Climate Change Summit to agree on recommendations for the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. The Summit will be convened by the UN Secretary-General on 22 September in New York, US.
Treki also called for an effective revitalization of the General Assembly “to regain its international legitimacy by ensuring that its voice is heard and respected and its resolutions implemented,” and for additional efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
