New Co-Chair Appointed for UN Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing
6 June 2010: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has announced that Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister of Norway, has accepted his invitation to become, with immediate effect, the Co-Chair of the UN High-level Advisory Group on Climate Change Financing.
Stoltenberg will replace Gordon Brown, former UK Prime Minister, and will work with Co-Chair Meles Zenawi, Prime Minister of Ethiopia. Ban also informed that UK Prime Minister David Cameron had nominated UK Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change Chris Huhne as a member of the Advisory Group.
The Advisory Group, launched in February 2010, is tasked with drafting practical proposals to boost both short- and long-term financing for climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies in developing countries. The Group is expected to issue its recommendations before the 16th session of the Conference of Parties (COP 16) to the UNFCCC, in Cancun, Mexico, at the end of 2010.
