Latest ITU Technology Watch Briefing Report Focuses on Climate Change and Energy Efficiency

ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector 27 August 2008: The seventh issue of the International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) Technology Watch Briefing Report, entitled “Next-Generation Networks and Energy Efficiency,” has been released.

The report examines the relationship between climate change and Next-Generation Networks (NGNs), by analyzing the improved energy efficiency achieved by the application of these new networks. An NGN is a new network technology that is expected to help improve the energy efficiency of information and communication technologies (ICTs), and thus help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from the use of ICTs. The Report is part of the ITU Technology Watch Briefing Report Series, which aims to assess the potential of emerging technologies in a way that is accessible to non-specialists.
