Indonesia Holds CC:Learn Workshop on National Climate Change Strategy

UN CC:Learn14 February 2013: The Indonesian National Council on Climate Change (DNPI) hosted a workshop on 14 February 2013, in Jakarta, to review progress on the development of a National Learning Strategy to address climate change.

The workshop brought together over 62 participants, including representatives from the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

Workshop participants agreed on a common understanding of the objectives of the Strategy and its priorities, including a list of follow up actions for immediate implementation, such as: basic training for community leaders on REDD+; capacity building for managers within the energy industry; and public awareness campaigns on climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The Strategy development process is supported by UN CC:Learn, a One UN initiative that brings together 33 multilateral organizations that supports member States in designing and implementing results-oriented and sustainable learning to address climate change. The Secretariat for UN CC:Learn is hosted by UNITAR. The Strategy is expected to be finalized in April 2013, and launched in May 2013, together with three immediate learning projects to be funded under the UN CC:Learn Initiative.
