India to Host World Environment Day, UNEP Announces

22 February 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) announced that World Environment Day, observed annually on 5 June, will be hosted by Mumbai and Delhi, in India, under the theme “Forests: Nature at Your Service.”

Worldwide events will aim to underscore the link between quality of life and the health of forests and forest ecosystems. They will emphasize how individual actions can have an exponential impact, with activities including school tree-planting, community clean-ups, car-free days, photo competitions on forests, bird-watching trips, city park clean-ups, exhibits, green petitions, and nationwide green campaigns.
