ILO Releases Issue 70 of World of Work Magazine

January 2011: The International Labour Organization (ILO) has released Issue 70 of its magazine "World of Work," which is subtitled "Promoting a Recovery: Focused on Jobs," and features articles on green jobs in the construction sector.

An article titled "Green jobs in construction: Small changes – big effect" notes that the construction sector was the first to be addressed in the ILO's Green Jobs Initiative. The article underscores that the sector is responsible for 25-40% of global energy use, and 30-40% of global GHG emissions. The piece is authored by Andrew Bibby, a journalist who reports on the Kuyasa Initiative in Cape Town, South Africa, the first African initiative registered under the Kyoto Protocol's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), and which significantly reduced carbon dioxide emissions, improved local air pollution, created jobs, and helped community cohesion.
