IFPRI Study Documents Climate Change Impacts on Rice in Viet Nam
15 March 2013: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has released a discussion paper, titled "How Are Farmers Adapting to Climate Change in Vietnam?" which highlights concern over climate change impacts on agriculture in Viet Nam, particularly rice, due to its sensitivity to temperature and water conditions.
The paper models a potential negative impact of climate change on rice production in Viet Nam and suggests that farmers will adapt by adjusting their production and level of input. The model also finds that modernization of infrastructure can be an effective response to climate impacts. However, it notes that farmers will need assistance to sustain current production levels and farm income.
