IFPRI Releases Paper on Agriculture and Adaptation in Viet Nam

August 2010: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has released a discussion paper titled "Impacts of Climate Change on Agriculture and Policy Options for Adaptation."

The paper uses crop simulations, hydrological simulations and river basin models to examine climate impacts on agriculture alongside technology advances and policy interventions. The authors examine rice yields in Viet Nam based on biophysical and socioeconomic conditions. They explore climate impacts related to sea level rise and changes in temperature and precipitation. The authors suggest that the negative impacts of climate change can be mitigated through investment in rural infrastructure. They also highlight the importance of localized policy to cope with regional differences. The authors  note the need for policies to target minority and poor communities for effective adaptation to occur. IFPRI is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). [IFPRI Discussion Paper on Impacts of Climate Change on Agriculture]
