IFAD Supports Regional Project on Livelihoods and Climate Change

15 October 2010: The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will be supporting a three-year research for development project with partners in Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan and Yemen.

The project, which was developed at a regional workshop in September 2010, will test and promote crop and livestock technologies to improve food security and reduce smallholder farmers' vulnerability to climate change impacts, with a focus on both rainfed and irrigated systems. Irrigated sites will be in Egypt and Sudan and rainfed systems will be in Eritrea, Ethiopia and Yemen. These projects will involve approximately 1600 households. The project will build on research in crop improvement, livestock production, water productivity, conservation agriculture, and the use of poverty mapping for research targeting. [ICARDA Press Release]
