IFAD Pledges Finance Adaptation for Smallholder Agriculture Activities in Yemen
7 September 2012: The Consultative Group Meeting for the Republic of Yemen announced a package of pledges towards Yemen's Transitional Program for Stabilization and Development, which included US$41 million in pledges from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to develop new programs.
The IFAD funds included US$10 million from the Adaptation for Smallholder Agriculture Programme (ASAP). The programme represents a new financing instrument to scale up and integrate climate change agriculture in development projects.
The Consultative Group Meeting included more than 280 participants from 27 donor countries and 36 regional development and financial institutions, and took place from 4-5 September 2012. The IFAD climate change work complements the remaining IFAD pledge, which will join the US$230 portfolio of IFAD-financed projects in Yemen, supporting increased resilience to shocks and conflict for over 1.2 million people.
