IEA Stresses Benefits of Improving Efficiency in the Russian Power Sector
9 May 2011: Addressing the Second International Scientific and Practical Conference in Kemerovo, Russian Federation, which took place from 4-6 May 2011, Richard Jones, International Energy Agency's (IEA) Deputy Executive Director, highlighted the potential for improving efficiency in the Russian Federation's coal-fired power plants.
Jones stated that, by making coal-fired power plants more efficient and taking pressure off of valuable natural gas as a domestic energy provider, more of the latter could be exported, creating a win-win situation both domestically and internationally. He added that increasing efficiency is the fastest, most cost-effective method to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improve energy security. [IEA Press Release]
