IDB Supports Brazilian SMEs in Measuring Carbon Footprint
5 January 2012: The Inter-American Development Bank's Multilateral Investment Fund (FOMIN), in partnership with the Brazilian National Standards Organization (ABNT), will launch a US$2.8 million project to support 200 small and medium-size companies (SMEs) manage their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The project will provide technical support for SMEs to carry out emissions inventories and help the ABNT become accredited as a third-party verifier of GHG emissions according to internationally-accepted standards and protocols. To date, voluntary GHG management initiatives in Brazil have only involved large companies and this initiative aims to allow SMEs to effectively participate in the green economy. [IDB Press Release]
