IDB Funds Geothermal Expansion in Nicaragua

2 August 2010: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will fund the expansion of geothermal power generation capacity in Nicaragua with a US$40 million loan to the company Polaris Energy Nicaragua S.A.

Once completed, the 72 MW power plant will increase Nicaragua's overall electricity generating capacity by 7% through renewable sources, and provide a stable and low-cost supply of electricity. [IDB Press Release]
