ICRAF Opens New West Africa Office in Sierra Leone

March 2013: The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) has opened a new office in Freetown, Sierra Leone, to support the Building Biocarbon and Rural Development in West Africa Project (BIODEV).

BIODEV will operate in Guinea, Mali and Sierra Leone to demonstrate development and environmental benefits from undertaking a "high value biocarbon approach" across large landscapes. The four-year project, implemented in partnership with the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and regional and international universities, is funded by the Government of Finland. The new office is the fifth ICRAF country office in West and Central Africa. ICRAF and CIFOR are members of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
