ICAO Supports Indonesia in Reducing Emissions from Aviation
27 March 2013: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) announced the launch of a large-scale Environmental Measures Project, which will be undertaken jointly between Indonesia's Ministry of Transport and ICAO's Technical Co-operation Bureau (ICAO-TCB).
The objectives of the project include: a Master Plan for Indonesian legislative improvements on emissions; green flights and green airports operational programmes; more efficient airspace design utilizing performance-based navigation guidelines; advice on appropriate market-based measures; initiatives relating to alternative fuels; and the development of a comprehensive emissions inventory.
Raymond Benjamin, ICAO's Secretary General, underscored that the initiative is part of the Organization's efforts to support member States towards mitigating international aviation carbon emissions. Indonesia's Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) will work directly with ICAO-TCB in developing the project. [ICAO Press Release]
