ICAO Journal Focuses on the Green Agenda

August 2010: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has released the third issue of its Journal for 2010, which focuses on the Green Agenda.

Volume 65, number 3 of the Journal contains five climate and environment-related articles. It opens with a message from Raymond Benjamin, ICAO Secretary General, showcasing ICAO's work on reducing the environmental impact of the air transport sector, highlighting its ecological and economic benefits. Another article summarizes the outcomes of the last meeting of ICAO's Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP), which produced 19 recommendations for member States to consider in the run-up to the upcoming 37th session of the ICAO Assembly. A third article reviews the status of alternative aviation fuel development. Two further articles discuss the increasing role of air traffic managers in tracking environmental challenges, and a joint undertaking of the European Commission (EC) and the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) aimed at reducing carbon emissions.
