Group Discusses Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions
The Third Session of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (ICG/CARIBE EWS-III) convened in Panama City, Panama, from 12-14 March 2008.
ICG reviewed progress reports on training and nominations of Tsunami
Warning Focal Points, agreed to instruct its Working Group 1 to present
the technical, logistical and administrative requirements of a Regional
Tsunami Warning Centre in view of establishing such a center in the
Caribbean at least by 2010, adopted the CARIBE EWS Implementation Plan
to monitor the CARIBE EWS, and agreed to convene a July 2008
community-level experts meeting on preparedness, readiness and
resilience, with the aims of producing a best-practices compilation.
