GEF Supports UNDP-ICAO Aviation Emissions Reduction Project
24 September 2013: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) approved a Project Concept and earmarked $2 million for an initiative of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the International Civil Aviation (ICAO) aimed at reducing emissions from aviation.
The project will identify the implementation needs of States relating to the reduction of international aviation emissions, and support them in the enhancement of national capacities for lowering carbon dioxide emissions from aviation. The Concept Document was developed by ICAO in collaboration with UNDP.
UNDP will be responsible for establishing practical tools to aid in the realization of ICAO's project objectives; ICAO will liaise with UNDP officials to ensure near- and long-term objectives are suitably addressed. [ICAO Press Release]
