GEF Supports Connect4Climate Competition Awards to African Youth

5 December 2011: The Connect4Climate (C4C) campaign competition, targeted at African youth aged 13 to 35, focused on videos and photos capturing stories of "climate change affecting Africa, your country, your community and you, your friends and your family."

The campaign aims to amplify local voices on the impact of climate change and generate awareness among policymakers on innovations taking place throughout Africa, which have the potential to bring together environmentally engaged citizens. Submissions for submitted climate change stories related to agriculture, energy, forests, gender, health, and water. The awards to 54 winners across 20 African countries were announced during the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC meeting in Durban, South Africa.

The C4C campaign unites over 110 partners across international organizations, social media networks, UN agencies, civil society including academic institutions, as well as youth organizations and private sector representatives.
