FOREST EUROPE, UNECE/FAO Launch Survey on the State of Forests Report

19 April 2012: FOREST EUROPE (The Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe) and the UN Economic Council for Europe/UN Food and Agriculture Organization (UNECE/FAO) are inviting the users of, and contributors to, the State of Europe's Forests 2011 Report (SoEF 2011) to complete a brief on-line survey about their experiences.

The purpose of the survey is to collect experiences and views from both the report's users and producers, to improve the process for the next assessment cycle. Results of the questionnaire will be presented at the next meeting of the UNECE/FAO Team of Specialists on Monitoring Sustainable Forest Management in May 2012.

SoEF 2011 summarizes status and trends of forests and forest management in Europe, highlighting, inter alia, the role of Europe's forests in sequestering increasing amounts of carbon in tree biomass, and the expanding area of protected forests. It provides an overview of current challenges facing forests in Europe, including: addressing climate change; developing adequate mitigation and adaptation measures; and increasing the use and mobilization of wood for renewable energy generation. [Online Access to the Survey] [Publication: State of Europe's Forests 2011 Report]
