FAO Releases Report on Bioenergy and Food Security in Thailand

October 2010: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released a report titled "Bioenergy and Food Security (BEFS) Thailand: Key results and policy recommendations for future bioenergy development."

The analysis examines the effects of the bioenergy sector on the agricultural market, and estimates the economic competitiveness of this approach and the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the sector. The analysis recommends: prioritizing initiatives to improve farmer productivity through research and development, incentive services and incentives; including assessments of costs and benefits of expanding sustainable irrigation practices in these initiatives; commissioning research on wastewater management strategy; increasing domestic biofuel demand; understanding through monitoring the impact of the biofuel sector on households; and encouraging biofuel producers to adopt renewable energy technologies. The BEFS project assesses how bioenergy developments could be implemented without hindering food security. [BEFS Thailand Report]
