FAO Holds African Workshop on GHG Monitoring
13 December 2013: The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) held a workshop that brought together high-level staff of 21 African Ministries of Agriculture or Agricultural National Statistical Agencies and Bureaus responsible for national greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting under international climate policy processes, to build their capacity in GHG monitoring.
The workshop, which took place from 2-3 December 2013, in Casablanca, Morocco, focused on: raising awareness on the importance of agricultural and forestry statistics; identifying capacity needs to engage in Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and to develop Biennial Update Reports (BUR); and facilitating exchange of knowledge.
Participants learned details about the FAOSTAT Emissions database and how it can support member country needs. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 23rd African Commission on Agricultural Statistics. [FAO Workshop Website] [23rd African Commission on Agricultural Statistics]
