FAO, CCAFS Host Workshop on NAMAs in Agriculture

17 July 2012: A recent workshop on Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) focused on supporting the development of NAMAs as a tool for national mitigation planning and climate smart agriculture.

The workshop, which took place from 16-17 July 2012, in Rome, Italy, was sponsored and hosted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) program of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).

Workshop participants shared experience on tools and resources for NAMA decision making, identified research and capacity development needs for agriculture planning, and discussed ways forward for effective NAMA planning.

Presentations focused on experiences from a variety of countries, including: developing local action plans for land-based NAMA in Indonesia; agricultural NAMAs in the context of the Costa Rican climate change strategy; development of the Brazilian agricultural NAMAs; developing NAMAs in Kenya; and national greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation options for agricultural landscapes in East Africa. [Workshop Website]
