Environmentally-Friendly UN City Opens in Copenhagen

United Nations4 July 2013: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the opening of UN City in Copenhagen, Denmark. The offices contribute to the UN's shift towards carbon neutrality and the objective laid out in the Millennium Declaration to make the UN more coherent and efficient.

The environmentally friendly, energy efficient offices will host eight UN Agencies: UN Development Programme (UNDP); UN Childrens Fund (UNICEF); UN Population Fund (UNFPA); UN Environment Programme (UNEP); UN Office for Project Service (UNOPS); World Food Programme (WFP); UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women); and World Health Organization (WHO).

In his statement, Ban reiterated that “addressing climate change is a responsibility for all, and I am determined that the UN should walk the walk.”
