ECLAC Releases Report on EU/LAC Cooperation

April 2011: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has published a report on cooperation between the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) countries, which highlights recent support by the EU to clean energy in the Americas.

A chapter on cooperation and promotion of clean energy provides an overview of European clean energy enterprises with investments in Latin America and the Caribbean, noting the EU is the region in the world with most patents on environmental technologies. It also identifies the types of projects related to climate change mitigation that are sponsored by the EU, in particular biofuels and industrial energy efficiency. The report concludes that strengthening the EU/LAC alliance, especially within the private sector, will result in low-carbon growth that is an essential component of sustainable development objectives in the LAC region.
