ECLAC Organizes Seminar on Carbon Footprint of Consumer Goods and Carbon Labeling
18 June 2009: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is organizing an expert meeting on “The Carbon Footprint in Agro food Goods and Services: A Contribution to Combating Global Warming” in Santiago, Chile, from 18-19 June 2009.
The meeting is co-organized with the Embassy of France in Chile, and brings together experts to discuss “carbon labeling,” a concept that consists of labeling products with their contribution to total greenhouse gas emissions expressed in carbon dioxide. Discussion panels will address regulatory frameworks and the development of methodologies in Europe, the perspectives in Latin American countries and an assessment of threats and opportunities of measuring carbon footprints for the private sector.[ECLAC Press Release]
