CIFOR Highlights Global Landscape Forum Plans
29 September 2013: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) released the September 2013 edition of its news update highlighting discussions on forest certification, forest fire haze, forests and green growth in Asia, tree planting in Ethiopia and REDD+ management in Indonesia.
The CIFOR report on forest certification, titled 'An Overview of Current Knowledge About the Impacts of Forest Management Certification,' emphasizes the need to assess multiple aspects of forest certification in order to quantify its value for different stakeholders. The discussion on forest fire haze explores how public attention can be sustained following the Southeast Asia haze crisis.
The news update also notes upcoming events, including the Global Landscape Forum, which will be held on 16-17 November 2013, on the margins of the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). To date, 900 people have registered for the Forum, which will include a youth engagement event.
Other events mentioned in the update include: the Expert Meeting on Strengthening Finance for Sustainable Forest Management through National Forest Funds; and the Business for the Environment Summit in Indonesia.
