CIF Backs Waste to Energy Bazaar in Nepal
13 May 2013: The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) provided financial support to Nepal, one of the pilot countries of the Program for Scaling Up Renewable Energy in Low Income Countries (SREP), to sponsor the first Waste to Energy (W2E) Bazaar, which took place on 26 April 2013, in Kathmandu.
The goal of the W2E Bazaar was to foster partnerships capable of promoting effective waste management projects, particularly at a large-scale, and economic development. According to CIF, the Bazaar drew significant attention from entrepreneurs, achieving 128 proposals in a short period of time.
The event selected three winning business ideas to be further promoted, namely: a biogas plant for a prison housing; a facility to produce organic fertilizer from wet waste; and a facility to produce electricity from poultry manure-derived biogas.
