CDM Registers 100th Programme of Activity
27 February 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has now registered over 100 CDM Programmes of Activities (PoAs), achieving a new milestone. Under the CDM PoA, it is possible to have an unlimited number of similar project activities registered under a single programme umbrella.
Once a PoA is registered, similar project activities can be added to the programme over time without each activity having to undergo the project registration process. This helps reduce transaction costs, particularly of small- or micro-scale projects, thereby making the CDM more accessible to countries such as the least developed countries (LDCs).
The CDM PoA achieved its 100th project milestone on a day that saw the registration of seven PoAs: a small-scale solar project in Thailand; small-scale hydro projects in China and in Brazil; a solar LED project in Kenya; cookstove projects in Mexico and in eight African countries; and a renewable energy project in China. There are now a total of 116 CDM PoAs in 42 countries, with over 250 more in the pipeline. [CDM Press Release] [CDM Programme of Activities Webpage]
