CDM Policy Dialogue Panel Adopts Work Plan and Research Programme
16 February 2012: The High-Level Panel on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Policy Dialogue has concluded its first meeting, during which it agreed on the scope and work plan for its deliberations.
The panel is tasked with conducting a policy dialogue on the CDM and held its first meeting from 14-15 February 2012. During the meeting, the panel elected its chair and vice-chair, defined a work plan, adopted rules and modalities for its work, and decided on a research programme and processes for stakeholder consultation. The research programme will focus on the CDM's internal workings, future direction, and mitigation and sustainable development impacts. In addition, the panel affirmed that it will give due consideration to the CDM's evolving policy context, relevant lessons learned, effectiveness, efficiency, integrity, as well as mitigation and sustainable development impacts.
The policy dialogue will be conducted until September 2012 and the panel's work will be submitted to the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol and published in a report. The CDM Policy Dialogue was launched by the UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres and the Chair of the CDM Executive Board Martin Hession at the UN Climate Change Conference in Durban, South Africa, in 2011. It is tasked to take stock of the lessons learned implementing the CDM and recommend how to position the mechanism going forward. [CDM Policy Dialogue Website] [Press Release]
