CDM Loan Scheme Concludes First Round of Applications

10 July 2012: The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) loan scheme has completed its first round of applications, having received applications from 42 projects in 23 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and Africa, including 25 from least developed countries (LDCs).

The CDM loan scheme was launched to support CDM projects in developing countries, and is run jointly by the UNFCCC, the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS), and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risoe Centre. Under the scheme, interest-free loans are available for projects in LDCs and in countries with fewer than ten registered CDM projects. The loans are offered to provide financing for the CDM validation, registration and verification process.

Applications are currently being accepted for the second round, which closes on 30 September 2012. [CDM Press Release] [UNEP Press Release]
