CCAFS Documents its First Year of Operation
5 July 2012: The annual report of the Climate Change Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) research program of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) documents its efforts in initiating work across numerous sites, establishing baseline surveys, and developing regional partnerships and learning platforms for climate-smart agriculture.
The report highlights that during its first year of operation, CCAFS played a central role in the establishment of the Commission on Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change, and successfully pushed for the inclusion of agriculture in future UNFCCC climate negotiations.
The report describes the over 50 journal articles and books that were created through CCAFS, and the success of external communications and media activities. It outlines work in various areas, including: developing tools for climate change adaptation; understanding the impact of climate change; mainstreaming gender and social differentiation; working with farmers; enhancing capacity; and communicating climate change. The report notes that 2012 will be a year to build on the framework established in 2011 and to deepen the activities that are occurring at research sites.
