CBD Releases September Issue of REDD+ and Biodiversity Newsletter
8 September 2010: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has released the September volume of its "REDD-plus & Biodiversity" newsletter.
The newsletter aims to inform CBD national focal points and CBD partners about biodiversity aspects in relation to reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+). The September volume contains information on, among others: wet carbon project proposals sought by Danone, IUCN and Ramsar; a Global Environment Facility (GEF) Science Panel workshop on "Approaches to Address Carbon Benefit in the context of Multiple Global Environmental Benefits in Implementing the SFM/REDD+ Program in GEF-5;" a publicly-available online introductory course on REDD+ by the Nature Conservancy and other partners; a prototype governance assessment tool for use at local levels produced by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR); and new publications of relevance to REDD+.
