Ban, Norway’s Prime Minister Discuss Sustainable Development, Climate Change
9 November 2011: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon met with Norway's Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg at UN Headquarters in New York, US, to discuss climate change and sustainable development, among other issues.
Ban and Stoltenberg exchanged views on their expectations for the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Durban, South Africa, in November - December 2011, and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) in Brazil in June 2012.
The two leaders also discussed the UN Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative. The initiative has three interlinked goals revolving around overarching target of achieving Sustainable Energy for All by 2030. These objectives are: ensuring universal access to modern energy services; doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency; and doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.
