At Donor Forum on Biodiversity, CBD’s Executive Secretary Highlights Linkages between Climate Change and Biodiversity

© CBD3 June 2009: On the occasion of the first Global Private Donor Forum on Biodiversity, which took place in Berlin, Germany, on 3 June 2009, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), referred to the interlinkages between climate change and biodiversity loss.

He stressed that biodiversity loss can contribute to climate change, and that, in turn, climate change contributes to biodiversity loss, emerging as one of the leading causes. He stressed that the feedback cycle between biodiversity loss and climate change threatens the future of humanity, noting that given that biodiversity loss and climate change interact with each other, they should be addressed synergistically [The Speech]
