AfDB’s Climate Finance Newsletter Focuses on Pioneering Green Growth
May 2012: The African Development Bank (AfDB) has published the March-April issue of its Climate Finance Newsletter. This issue underscores that the AfDB is currently preparing its Long Term Strategy, which will cover the period from 2013-2022 and will aim to support Africa's transformation into a stable, competitive, integrated and greener continent.
In an article titled "How Africa can pioneer green growth," AfDB President Donald Kaberuka explains to “Europe's World” how Africa can best scale-up the climate finance system and embrace green growth. The newsletter also features articles on: the upcoming AfDB Annual Meetings in Arusha, Tanzania, from 28 May - 1 June 2012, which will focus on “Africa and the Emerging Global Landscape: Challenges and Opportunities;” the fourth annual Partnerships Forum, which took place from 22-23 March 2012, and during which AfDB and development partners discussed “Transforming Partnerships towards a Green and Inclusive Africa;” and the launch by AfDB of a green growth seminar series aimed to help staff fully understand green growth and define the Bank's operational strategy in this area.
In a section titled "The Road to Rio," the newsletter highlights events related to the discussions held on green growth in the lead up to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
The newsletter further includes articles on: the fourth African Carbon Forum; the Sixth World Water Forum; the first ICA Water Platform Meeting; the Seminar on National and Transboundary Water Resources Management in Africa; lessons learned in renewable energy in Africa; challenges faced by Mozambique, Niger and Zambia in climate resilience planning; innovations on REDD+ investments in Burkina Faso, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ghana; and the AfDB call for more climate financing to Africa.
