ADB Funds CCS and Wind Energy in China
9 July 2009: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide a US$1.25 million technical assistance loan to promote carbon dioxide capture and storage (CCS) demonstration projects in China, as well as a US$24 million loan to finance a wind farm in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The CCS project will produce a road map, as well as policies, legal and regulatory frameworks to promote CCS use. It is also expected to identify priority demonstration projects on high-efficiency coal-fired power plants that allow the capture and permanent storage of almost all of the carbon dioxide emissions. CCS application is particularly suited to the integrated gasification combined cycle power plant, which turns coal into synthetic gas to power gas turbines.
