Adaptation Fund Board to Convene in March

March 2009: The Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) will convene for its fifth meeting from 24-27 March 2009, in Bonn, Germany.

The Adaptation Fund was established by the parties to the UNFCCC's Kyoto Protocol to finance concrete adaptation projects and programmes in developing countries that are parties to the Protocol. The Fund will be financed with 2% of the Certified Emission Reduction (CERs) issued for projects of the Clean Development Mechanism and with funds from other sources.

At its fifth meeting, the Board will consider draft provisional operational policies and guidelines for parties to access resources from the Adaptation Fund. Direct access to the Fund by parties was enabled by the decision of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol under the UNFCCC in December 2008 in Poznan, Poland.

Board members will be also presented with reports on the Activities of the Secretariat and on the Process of the CER Monetization by the Trustee. In addition, the meeting agenda includes such issues as establishing Board Committees, budgetary matters and letterhead and logo for the Fund. [Adaptation Fund Website] [Meeting Documents]
